Hold on and look – encourage your toddler to look up as they walk up steps

What you need 

• Steps  
• A favourite toy or person 

What to do 

1. Find some steps when you are out. 
2. Either put a favourite toy at the top of the steps or get whoever is with you to go and stand at the top.  
3. Walk up the steps with your toddler, encouraging them to look at the toy or person as they climb the steps.  
4. Be ready to do this a few times – your toddler might enjoy the challenge of walking up and down the steps! 

Your toddler is still developing the skills they need to judge risk, which means it is important to supervise them when they are near stairs or steps.
