Highs and lows – using different tones to match sizes when playing
What you need
- Two objects that are the same/similar but different sizes, for example, a big ball and a small ball, or an orange and a satsuma
What to do
- Begin to vary the pitch and tone of the sounds you are making with your baby. They may tune in to the different ranges and be encouraged to copy the sounds.
- The sounds that your baby will make may differ from yours, remember to praise them for joining in.
- Show your baby the two objects. In a high voice say, “Small ball.”
- Wait for your baby to try to respond.
- Repeat a few times to help your baby to copy the pitch.
- Next, show your baby the big ball and in a low voice say, “Big ball.”
- Again, give them plenty of time to respond and repeat a few times.
