Handwashing music – make up a song together

What to do 

• When your child is washing their hands, sing a simple made up song to help them remember each step.  
• Choose a tune you know and use the steps to give you the words. Any tune that makes you smile will work for this. 
• You could include lines like: wet your hands, squirt the soap, rub my hands, rinse my hands. 

Good to know

Using a familiar tune to sing about what you're doing can be a brilliant way to add interest to daily routines. Encourage your child to make up their own songs for other tasks, such as getting dressed, if they enjoy this.
