What to try
- Involve your toddler in routine tasks, such as tidying, sweeping or putting washing in the washing machine.
- Encourage them to do some aspects of the task themselves.
- Chat about what you’re doing and the items you’re using.
- As the task becomes more familiar you could ask, “We need to clean the windows, what do we need?”
Good to know
Your toddler is likely to be an enthusiastic, but not very skilled, helper so think about which aspects of each task they can do well to avoid frustration. Expect doing anything with your young apprentice to take longer than doing it on your own!
