Getting dressed – making the most of an everyday activity
What to try
- When it’s time to dress your baby, chat to them about what you are doing.
- You could say, “Let’s get a clean nappy first. There you go: all clean. Look – it’s your green top today; over your head, there you go!”
- Notice if your baby responds to what you are doing and pause, then comment on their response.
- If they don’t like an aspect of the routine, reassure them with smiles and by talking gently.
- It might take lots of repetition, but over time this reassurance helps your baby to feel better about the parts of their routine they don’t enjoy so much.
