Foot spa – help your baby explore textures with some bathtime fun

What you need

  • Some soft items, like a cloth, soft brush or sponge

What to do

  • When you’re preparing your baby’s bath, find some objects you can use to stroke their feet.
  • Put your chosen items to the side while you get your baby in the bath.
  • Have some fun splashing and playing together before choosing an item to stroke their feet with.
  • Show your baby what you have and explain what you will do. You could say, “Oh look, I have a brush. Shall we paint your feet?”
  • Gently place the brush under the water and touch your baby’s feet.
  • If they enjoy it, stroke their feet with the brush.

Good to know

Gentle pressure can be tickly, so your baby might prefer slightly firmer strokes. If your baby doesn’t like their feet being touched, try this on their hands, arms, tummy, back or legs.

Watch your baby’s response and stop if they seem unhappy.
