What to try
- Notice what your baby is interested in and follow their lead.
- Focus on what your baby can do, see, hear or feel. So, if they are playing with a box, talk about what they’re doing: "Wow, this is a big box. Can you get inside? Let's put your toys inside the box."
- When your baby speaks, pause to listen and then respond to their babble with more comments.
Good to know
It’s ok to guess what your baby is saying, or even to respond with your own babble-like sounds. By replying, no matter what you say, you're helping your baby to understand how conversations work.
