Fascinating faces – holding your baby so they can focus on your face
What to try
- Hold your baby around 20 to 30cm from your face (holding your baby cradled in your arms is about this distance).
- You could cradle them in your arms or sit on the floor and bend your knees upwards a little so you can rest your baby on your legs close to your face.
- Smile, sing gently or chat about anything at all.
- Your baby will focus on your face and watch how your expression changes and your mouth moves as you speak to them.
Good to know
These early interactions support your baby’s brain development, so even though they might seem not to respond, these early chats make a big difference to your baby.
