Face to face – get close up every day

What to try

  • Find time each day to have a face-to-face chat with your baby.
  • Talk to your baby about their facial features, gently touching their nose, cheeks or chin as you name them.
  • Babies are drawn to face-like images, so drawing a simple picture of a smiling face on some card or even on a wooden spoon might interest them.
  • Talk to them about the picture; perhaps use it to tell a story or sing a song your baby enjoys.

Good to know

From a very young age, babies show a preference for looking at faces. The faces of the people who love them will always be at the top of that list, so take time to talk to or play with your baby face to face, making sure you are close so they can see you clearly.
