Face to face – support your baby’s social development by finding time to be close
What to try
- Find times every day when you can enjoy some face-to-face interaction with your baby.
- This could be a chat during nappy changing, lying on the floor facing them during tummy time or turning to respond to their coos and smiles when you’re making a meal.
- When you read a story to your baby, hold them where they can see your face – that way story time can become another opportunity for a chat.
- Remember, while lots of interaction is important for your baby, they will also sometimes turn away, or show you in another way that they don’t want to talk just now!
- Respond to their signals and stop when you think they have finished their conversation for now.
