Exploring outside – using information from the senses to learn about the world

What to try

  • Take your baby outside whenever you can; see them notice the effects of the changing light, the breeze and birds flying overhead.
  • Stop to look at things you pass by a cat can be fascinating, the wind blowing leaves on a tree; perhaps you could brush a flower or leaf against your baby’s face.
  • Hold them close to objects so they can reach out and touch some of the things they can see.

Good to know

Your baby is gaining sensory information and being out of doors is a great way to stimulate your baby’s senses, their vision and responses to tactile experiences.
