Do you have some ladders? Then let your child have a go!

What you need

  • A set of ladders

What to do

  1. If you cannot get to the park, find a set of ladders at home.
  2. If your ladders are very tall, you can start this activity by lying them flat on the ground.
  3. Show your child how you can move along the ladders using your hands and feet.
  4. Encourage your child to have a try.
  5. If you have a shorter step ladder, or you feel confident that you can safely secure longer ladders in an upright position and also be able to lift down your child when they are high enough, position them safely then encourage your child to climb up.
  6. Talk them through the motions by saying things like, “That’s right, hold on with both hands, and lift one leg up,” or “Now that you have one leg on the ladder, lift up the other leg to stand next to it.”

Make sure your ladders are secure if they are in an upright position and stay close to your child when they are climbing up and down them
