Did you know that getting dressed promotes your baby’s head movements?
What you need
- Loose clothing for your baby that's easy to get on and off
- Time when dressing your baby, to enjoy it as social time together
What to try
- Lie your baby on their back on a flat surface.
- Gently dress them, talking about what you’re doing as you go.
- When your baby turns their head to look towards you, respond with a cheery voice and say something like, “Does that feel nice?”
Good to know
Not all babies like to get dressed, so chatting can help distract them. Make funny noises as you slide their arms and legs through clothing and, when they look at you, blow them a kiss.
Your baby will often turn their head to one side when lying down. By encouraging them to move their head, arms and legs when they get changed, you’re helping them to get used to the feeling of moving their head into different positions.
