What you need
- Mug or cup to measure the ingredients
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/4 cup salt
- 1 tablespoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 cup warm water
- Choice of scent
- Food coloring (optional)
- Time to clear up when the dough is made (your child might find it tricky to keep the ingredients in the bowl when they tip and mix!)
What to do
- Use a mug or cup to measure each ingredient – get your child involved in measuring and tipping into the mixing bowl.
- Mix all the ingredients in one bowl until you have a soft dough. Your child might find this hard work so you could take it in turns to mix.
- Add more flour if the dough is still a bit sticky.
- Knead it together into a smooth ball and play with the dough!
Good to know
You can add scent to the play dough using natural items with strong fragrances, such as cocoa powder, herbs, spices, essences, coffee or flavoured teas.
