Cruising around the park – how many pieces of equipment can I explore today?

What you need

  • A park with a safe place and some equipment for your baby to hold on to.

What to try

  • Find some equipment at the right height for your baby to hold on to and cruise along.
  • There may be a low wall or balancing bars that are a perfect height for them.
  • Check that the ground is safe and there is no debris or rubbish that may harm their feet.
  • Lift your baby and pop them in front of your choice of suitable equipment.
  • Encourage them to cruise along, using praise and smiles.

Good to know

When your baby is playing at home, they definitely don’t need shoes. Being barefoot is best for the development of their feet. If you are going to try cruising at the park, you might want some pre-walking shoes to protect their feet. These are soft and flexible so your baby can develop their balance.
