Clap with me – sharing songs to encourage clapping

Songs and rhymes are a perfect time to practise clapping, sometimes simply a round of applause at the end of the song is enough to excite your baby. There are plenty of songs that will encourage your baby to clap along, for some added joy as you sing. 

What to try 

• ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’, ‘Pat-a-Cake' and ‘Open Shut Them’ are all brilliant clapping songs to share.  
• If you prefer, you can clap to the beat of your favourite song when you’re listening to music together.  

Good to know 

Your baby won’t be able to keep a beat with you, but the joy of clapping along won’t be lessened because of this.
