Word play at bathtime – helping your baby match words and meaning

What you need

  • Bath toys
  • Sponges or flannels (or whatever your baby prefers to wash with)

What to try

  • At bathtime, use words and phrases that your baby is starting to understand, such as “Splash,” “Rub a dub dub,” or “Nice and clean.”
  • You might drop a toy in the water and say, “Plop!”
  • You could offer your baby the same toy and say something like, “You splash.”
  • Give your baby a clean with a sponge or flannel and then offer it to them to try and clean themselves.
  • Try to make your instructions simple and fun.
