What you need
Leave magazines and brochures for your baby to examine once you've finished reading them. It's possible that your baby will try to turn the pages. Because the paper is so thin, don't expect them to turn one page at a time; they will turn several, if not most. Do expect pages to get ripped, your baby is starting to develop controlled fine motor movements.
When you provide your baby with crayons to play with, be sure to stay with them the entire time. Babies are curious and your baby might try to stick the crayon in their ear, mouth, up their nose, or draw on themselves. If you notice any of these things happen, direct the crayon back to the paper saying, “That’s right, we draw on paper.”
While your baby is playing, ask them to show you what is in their hand. Observe how your baby moves their forearm. Do this at different times and when your baby is holding different objects. The shape, size and weight of the object will mean your baby has to move slightly differently, a great workout for their arm muscles.
