What you need
- A favourite toy, like a character, doll or teddy
What to try
- Use your toddler's toy to help them understand action words.
- Say an action and show them what that action is using their toy, perhaps making teddy jump off the sofa, or lie down to sleep.
- Invite your toddler to copy using their own toy, or taking turns with the same one as you.
- Let your toddler name and demonstrate an action if they want to.
- Encourage them to create the action with their toy.
Good to know
Your toddler and their toy could demonstrate jumping, running, drinking, dancing, eating and other similar actions. If they’re not interested in playing this game on its own, you can weave it into their day by joining them when they’re playing something else and commenting on what actions they or their toys are doing.
