What to do
- Go out for a walk together.
- Pick something you can count and tell your child to look out for them – this could be lampposts, steps, swings or anything else you know you’ll see.
- Choose things that are close together, so your child hears the numbers without too much of a gap. If there is a long pause, they might not link the number you’re saying with the last one.
- Count each one as you pass them – if you choose something like lampposts you could encourage your child to touch each one as you say the number.
